Mid-week Cocktail FABness!

Nothing can beat the heat of a hot southern day like a margarita. I say, when you want to blow people away and celebrate in true Texas style (mrsFAB’s FABfave southern state) use the best tequila (such as Patron Silver) in this frozen confection.

Texas Twister…

Ingredients:

    2-1/2 to 3 oz. high-quality tequila
    1-1/2 oz. Grand Marnier

Splash of Corona (or your favorite Mexican beer)
Splash of your favorite red wine such as Zinfandel

Preparation:

  1. Blend all ingredients with ice in blender until smooth.
  2. Pour into a chilled margarita glass.

My New Berry FABfave?

Anyone who knows mrsFAB knows that I love BlackBerrys. My very first Berry was the 8330 Curve. That one got me hooked, and I declared to never own a device that was not a BlackBerry.

My next Berry was the Storm. I got mine on December 30th, 2008. I remember because it was my best friend’s birthday. I was sooooo super excited when I got her… that’s right, HER. I named my Berry ‘Daisy Storm’.

I remember when everyone was having problems with their Storm, I would have a smirk on my face because mine was flawless. Even on the .75 OS, she ran like a champ. Then I started experimenting with the leaked software updates form Crackberry.com. After that, Daisy got sick.

She begain freezing up, rebooting all by herself. I was sick. So sick that I almost threw her into the river. Even when the official .148 OS came out, it was too late. Daisy was not the same.

After trying everything that I could think of, I finally took Daisy to Dr. Verizon. And after much tinkering, Daisy had to be replaced. She was replaced with a Storm that had never had a leaked OS. She was all doctored up with the official .148 OS and was running like a champ! Daisy was now ‘Daisy Storm 2.0′!! And I loved my Storm again!!!

Now on July 12th, Verizon will be releasing the newest member of it’s RIM product family, the BlackBerry Tour 9630 Smartphone. I find myself craving it. Don’t get me wrong. I love Daisy Storm 2.0… but I have always been one who has to have the latest and the greatest.

I don’t need it. My Storm is fine. But the thought of having the Tour is now consuming me. I want it and I want it first… on release day!

What will happen to Daisy? She will still be around. In fact, I plan to use my Storm one week, then I will flip to the Tour the next. I CAN have it all!!

And in case you were wondering… my Tour will be named ‘Sasha BlackBerry’.

The BET Awards: Fuckery Indeed!

It is a well known fact that the FABsisters do NOT watch BET. I have felt for a long time that BET does not represent black Americans well and that it actually has poisoned so many young minds.

So last night, I went on a date with hubbyFAB to see Transformers (soFAB!). Since I new that this year’s BET Awards Show  was going to make a tribute to Michael Jackson, I decided to DVR it. That way, I could just forward through the foolishness and look at the MJ parts.

Out of a three and a half hour long show, it only took me about 30 minutes to forward through the entire show. I can say that I was truly embarrassed. That show was sonotFABfoolishness to the 10th power!

Check out what some tweeps has to say last nights ”tribute:”

July5th: Woke up and thought the BET Awards was a bad nightmare, but in fact did happen. My people, my people

DivaMusiqua: I think its funny that so many people on twitter and facebook hated the BET awards last night… It was a shit shame…

Slimathee: I woke up feeling dumber for have watching the BET awards.

ClairHugzstable: ★am i the only 1 dat tinks da BET Awardssucked major azz?!im STILL upset w/ dem bout Ciara! n Beyonce is officially RANDOM AS HELL!★

profit917: The bet awards were atrocious. It was more of a comedic display than a tribute. Ignorance is an understatement.

jwormyk: BET awards honor MJ….Jamie Fox?WTF? Joe Jackson promoting DVDs on the red carpet?

I could not believe the mess that BET aired last night.

The ONLY part that touched my heart last night, was the few minutes that MJ’s little sis, Janet Jackson, spoke to the crowd. Oh what a brave and strong woman:

It is out of respect for the Jackson family, that I want to givewill not give the BET Awards the FABexperience “What tha? Award in Fuckery”… at least they made an effort. An effort that was an epic FAIL!

Michael Jackson Dead!

Michael Jackson onstage at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles in 1984

After a few hours of speculation, it has finally been confirmed that the “King of Pop”, Michael Jackson, is dead at the age of 50.

At first, I planned to do a quick ‘copy and paste’ post. I just wanted the death to be acknowledged on theFABexperience.com. But Michael deserves more… so much more that I could even begin to type.

On my way home from work,  while driving through my ritzy neighborhood, I blasted “I’ll Be There” and “Thriller” in my car, with the sun roof open. I was just waiting for someone to give me the ’side-eye’.  I then began thinking about how years from now, people would be asking themselves, “Where were you when the news broke that Michael Jackson had died?” At that very moment, I tuned into a radio station that had already began playing tribute songs to the “King.” I wept.

I grew up with Michael Jackson. There will never be another. May he rest in peace with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I will miss him so much.

mrsFAB needs a Home Builder…STAT!

I am looking to build a new house. I hope to find a good lot in Frisco, Texas. If not, maybe Plano or Southlake. These are the FABest Dallas suburbs!

FABulous ones in the Dallas area, I need your help. I need a home builder. I am in the process of checking home builder ratings. I looked into Grand Homes, but they were ranked LAST by J.D. Powers and Associates… ugh!

So if you recently built a home in the Dallas/Forth Worth area, or know someone who has, email me the name of their builder. If any builders happen to come across this post, let me know what you have to offer.

Builders, here is a list of mrsFAB’s new home ‘must haves’:

  • Entire lower level and staircase in hardwood, travertine tile (the kind that looks like stone), and stained/scored concrete.
  • 2 fireplaces… one in the hearth room, one in the master or formal living area.
  • Seperate study.
  • Staircase with a wood railing and iron spindles.
  • Nice landscaping. *I always strive for yard of the month.*
  • Gourmet kitchen with stainless steal appliances, gas cooktop, large pantry, island.
  • Hearth or keeping room. I want a formal living area and a hearth room off of the kitchen. I do NOT want a “great room.”
  • Formal dining room with chair rails.
  • Crown molding in all lower level living areas, kitchen, dining room.
  • Vaulted ceilings in dining room, hearth room, formal living room, master bedroom and master bath.
  • Large, covered patio with ceiling fan that leads to a wood deck.
  • Nice size backyard so that my dogs can play.
  • Privacy fence.
  • NO CARPET in master bedroom. Master should be on the lower level. Large his/her closets. Tile in master bath, which surround a jacuzzi tub. Large separate shower.
  • Oil rubbed bronze fixtures… door knobs, faucets, shower trim, ceiling fans, etc.
  • Sprinkler system *Don’t have this now, but I must have it!!*
  • 2 car garage but I prefer a 3 car garage.
  • Upstairs game room wired for surround sound.. For my hubbyFAB’s “man cave” and workout equipment area.
  • 3 bedrooms with separate study, 3 baths OR 4 bedroom (one can be made into a study) and 3 baths.
  • Traditional style home with a french country stone elevation and nice wood shutters.
  • Wood arbor that surrounds the garage door.

This is pretty much what I have now, and I want to stay with the same type of home. So Dallas home builders and realtors, email me at mrsFAB@theFABexperience.com, or put your link in the comments, so I can check it out. If there is a new or almost new home that meets my needs, I will consider that as well. Now let me work on getting my current home sold!!

Happy Father’s Day!

This day just kind of snuck up on me. I don’t know why. It’s the same month every year, yet I never really remember until the last minute.

I am taking my papaFAB out to lunch or dinner today. I want to take time out to wish all of the dad’s out there, as well as the single mom’s who have to play the dad role, a very happy and blessed Fathers Day.

This post was suppose to be a quick and short one. But then something happened. Well I guess I need to give you a little background on mrsFAB.

My dream was to be a news anchor or reporter. I have a degree in Journalism/Broadcast News. So needless to say, I LOVE watching the news and news type shows. Growing up, my Dad and I watched ‘60 Minutes’ every Sunday. I still so.

Anywho, I got up this morning, made coffee, and tuned in to one of my FABfave news shows, CBS Sunday Morning. Since it’s Father’s Day, they did a piece on President Obama, the “First Dad.”

They talked to him about how his dad was not really present in his life, and then sort of repeated over and over and over again that he is a good dad to his two girls, Sasha and Malia.

For some reason, that struck a nerve with me. Why? Because I don’t remember there ever being so much focus put on the fact that a President is being a real dad to his children, as there is on President Obama. I mean there were other President’s who were dads:  Clinton, Kennedy, Nixon, Gore,Bush Sr. and Jr. So why should Obama’s being a good father to his girls being any different from any past President?

Well I am not going to sugarcoat this. I think it’s because the black community is full of deadbeat dads. Obama’s dad being one of them. Yes there are deadbeat, no good dad’s of all races. But the number of them in the Black community is ridiculously embarrassing.

So when the media sees our Commander in Chief, doing what any father should be doing for his children, all of a sudden it’s time for praise. Praise? We are living in a society that praises a dad for being a… dad! This is not something that should be praised. This should be the NORM!!! Normal I say.

Being a good father to your children should be normal, not  something that is out of the ordinary in the black community or any other community. Period!

I was blessed to have a dad in my life. Even when my parents divorced, my dad did not abandon us. He was still around. He is sick now, but I am blessed to still have him on this Earth. And on that note,

Happy Father’s Day, papaFAB! xoxo

I did NOT watch the game!

When all eyes were on the NBA Championship game last night, I could not and did not watch. For what?

Number one, I am so NOT a Lakers fan. I like certain NBA players, not teams. Number two, Kobe Bryant is not one of the players that I do like. I must admit that I am a fan of Derrick Fisher though.

If I did watch the game, I would have been rooting for the losing team. And even in rooting for the Magic, Dwight Howard’s little a$$ ears would have been a distraction. Every time I watch him play, I find myself focusing on those ears.

But let me tell you what I did watch…

‘Taking of Pelham, One, Two, Three’… circa 1974!

I did not realize that Denzel and Travolta’s new flick, ‘The Taking of Pelham 123′, was a remake of a flick done in 1974. It was on TV last night and I was so excited about watching it.

*Walter Matthau as Lt. Zachary Garber, who negotiates with the kidnappers, and successfully tracks down the last surviving member of the group.*

In the original, Lieutenant Zachary Garber (Walter Matthau) is a cynical and grumpy New York City Transit Authority policeman whose routine is interrupted by the hijacking of the 6 Manhattan-bound local train from Pelham Bay Park which occurred between the 28th Street and 23rd Street Stations. The ruthless hijackers kill two transit workers during the course of the hijacking, while demanding a ransom of one million dollars in unmarked bills within 60 minutes.

*Robert Shaw plays “Mr. Blue”, the leader of the group that hijacks a subway train.*

In the new flick, Denzel Washington plays Matthau’s character, renamed Walter Garber, who is now a ’subway dispatcher’ instead of a Lieutenant. John Travolta stars as Ryder (”Mr. Blue” in the 1974 original), the criminal mastermind who, as leader of a highly-armed gang of four, threatens to execute the train’spassengers unless a large ransom is paid within one hour. As the tension mounts beneath his feet, Garber employs his vast knowledge of the subway system in a battle to outwit Ryder and save the hostages. But there’s one riddle Garber can’t solve: even if the thieves get the money, how can they possibly escape?

Let’s compare the trailers! Here’s the one from 1974:

And here is the trailer for the new flick:

I can wait to see Denzel’s version. I am also going to try to find one OTHER versions of this fick. What versions? Check this out…

The Taking of Pelham One, Two, Three FABfacts!:

The Taking of Pelham One Two Three(1973) is a thriller novel by Morton Freedgood, writing under the pen name John Godey. The novel’s title is derived from the train’s radio call sign. When a New York City subway train leaves to start a run, it is given a call sign based upon the time it left and where; in this case, Pelham Bay Park Station at 1:23 p.m.

In 1998, the film was remade as a television movie with the same title, with Edward James Olmos(The Lieutenant from Miami Vice.) in the Matthau role and Vincent D’Onofrio(The Detective from Law and Order: Criminal Intent) replacing Shaw as the senior hijacker. Although not particularly well received by critics or viewers, this version was reportedly more faithful to the book, though it updated the setting with new technologies.

Completely Random…

So a guy from Winner, N. Dakota won the lottery. I told the Lord that I bought a ticket, but apparently the guy who  won needed it more. I love it when a poor person wins. At least they need the money. When a wealthy person wins, I am usually real pissed!

I have been so busy lately. I have not been posting regularly like I usually do. Forgive me FABulous ones!

I am on my “starvation diet.” It started today. I am eating, but just a very, very small amount.  I must get back to my goal weight within two months.

I am still in shock about the death David “Kung Fu/grasshopper” Carradine. So sad. I do believe it was an accident. A Thai tabloid leaked a pic of his dead body in the closet. I would not dare post it, but here is a link if you wish to see a pic of the tabloid.  ***click here***  RIP Mr. Carradine.

I am determined to get Verizon to get me into a Curve until the new BlackBerry Tour is released. I love my Daisy Storm, but biotch gotta go! It’s time to move on. Perhaps I will fair better with the Storm 2.
